The magic of Christmas At Biltmore 2023 has begun! Visiting the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina during the Christmas season is a magical experience. Christmas At Biltmore 2023 starts November 3, 2023, and lasts through January 7, 2024. The Biltmore Estate, a grand mansion built by George Vanderbilt in the late 19th century, is beautifully decorated for the holidays, creating a festive atmosphere for visitors. Inside the mansion, you’ll find elaborately decorated Christmas trees, stunning floral arrangements, and festive displays in every room. The grand Banquet Hall features a 35-foot-tall Fraser fir Christmas tree, creating a breathtaking sight as you enter the hall.

In addition to the stunning decorations, Biltmore Estate offers a variety of special events and activities during the Christmas season. You can enjoy live music performances, candlelight tours of the mansion, and even a visit from Santa Claus. Hallmark Films Christmas Movie At Biltmore

Last January, Hallmark filmed one of their Christmas movies at Biltmore House and on the estate, A Biltmore Christmas premieres on Hallmark Channel on November 26, 2023, as part of Hallmark’s annual Countdown to Christmas. The film stars Bethany Joy Lenz and Kristoffer Polaha. Lucy Hargrove (Joy) who is a screenwriter travels to Biltmore Estate for research and inspiration on a movie she is writing. While there, she travels back in time to 1947. Lucy ends up meeting Jack Huston (Kristoffer Polaha), one of the film’s stars from 1947. A romance movie, Christmas and Biltmore, how exciting for us Hallmark fans!

Sir Walter Wally Retires From Groundhog Day

Sir Walter Wally has retired from the Raleigh Groundhog Day festivities. The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences announced recently that the groundhog is being retired. Groundhog Day celebrations for 2023 in Raleigh will go on without Sir Walter Wally making an appearance.

The museum will have various displays and activities this Groundhog Day, Thursday, February 2, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free. Fun and educational exhibits include:

How Groundhogs and other animals burrow into the earth to build their homes. Animals in Winter and how animals survive the cold. Groundhog Hats- make your own groundhog headbands. Groundhog Toss Game – help them get back in their burrow. The history of Groundhog Day, learn about the history of Groundhog Day and get to meet one of the original animals that was used to predict an early/late spring. Rodents of the World – learn about some of the variety of rodents around the world.

Groundhog Day At Chimney Rock

Groundhog Day At Chimney Rock State Park this year also had an announcement. Their resident groundhog, Pumpkin, has been under vet care recently. He will also not be making an appearance. Chimney Rock we will not be hosting a live in-person or streaming event this year. We can still go to their webpage (CRSP) Thursday morning to see Pumpkin’s prediction for the arrival of spring and the winner of this year’s Super Bowl.

Where Can NC See Groundhog Day Predictions?

Garner is still having their annual Groundhog Day celebration. Snerd the Groundhog will continue her annual duties this Thursday. Garner’s annual Groundhog Day celebration will be held at White Deer Park from 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The event will include live animals, educational booths, Smokey Bear, story time and crafts. Snerd will deliver her prediction to Mayor Marshburn on the stage at noon.

The annual Bulluck’s Warehouse Sale 2021 is finally here. The popular sale began Saturday, January 29, 2022. The warehouse sale will still be at Phipps Warehouse located at 218 N. Church Street near downtown Rocky Mount, NC. Phipps Warehouse is located next to the Imperial Centre on Church Street. See the map below for directions. Parking is to the left of the warehouse when coming down Church Street. The huge Bulluck Warehouse Sale 2021 is one of the most popular sales in Eastern North Carolina. Thousands of shoppers travel many miles to attend this sale.

North Carolina Whirligig Festival This Weekend In Wilson

The North Carolina Whirligig Festival is a fun two-day event that takes place at the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park in downtown Wilson. The park is named after Vollis Simpson, an artist who used re-purposed, recycled and reused materials of all kinds to make his unique whimsical windmills. The North Carolina Whirligig Festival takes place this year November 2-3, 2019. This year
celebrates 15 years of the Whirligig Festival. It is a family-friendly weekend of artisans, music, food and whirligigs. Admission is FREE.

Food and Arts and Crafts Vendors At Festival

This year there are close to 100 food and arts and crafts vendors that will be set up in and around the park. Vendors include: Adoorable Wreaths, All Things Quilted and More, Bella Cotton, Black Creek Crafting, Crafters in the Woods, Face It! Face Painting, J. Kevin Howard Pottery, Lizzy V Jewelry, M&W Leather, Signature Hair Bows, The Tin Can Man, Whirligig Toy Factory and so many more. The food vendors this year include 3 Star Kettle Corn, Brooklyn Boy’s Pizza, Chick-fil-A of Wilson, Everett’s Concessions, Kruger’s Candies, L & L Skins and Peanuts, Mamaw’s Crab Cakes, Taqueria Guerrero and many more.

Whirligig Park
Downtown Wilon, NC

The North Carolina Whirligig Festival is a community celebration of people and art in motion. It takes place on the first weekend of November each year. The festival is held to recognize Wilson ‘s heritage and community by showcasing active artists, who feature works designed with re-purposed, recycled and reused materials. The whirligig park is open every day but the festival takes place over two days in November each year. The whirligigs at the park are 20-50 feet high and are constantly moving when there is any wind blowing. There is a webcam to view the park at wilsonwhirligigpark.org/live-web-cam. It makes for a fun sight to watch especially on a windy day! Many of the whirligigs are made of reflective materials so you can see them at night.

The hours for the North Carolina Whirligig Festival are Saturday, Nov. 2 from 10-5 and Sunday, Nov. 3 from noon till 5. There will also be three stages of live entertainment, a Whirli-Kidz Zone, active artists, and much more! It’s a fun event to take the kids too! Face painting, whirligigs, food and music. And the festival is free to attend.

Got To Be NC Festival 2017

The Got to Be NC Festival 2017 at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds is May 19-21, 2017. Admission at the gate and parking are FREE!
There is free admission and parking to the Got to Be NC Festival. Some special events and activities will cost money. You can also take the free shuttle from Carter-Finley Stadium to Gate 9 from 10:00 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Saturday and on Sunday Noon – 7 p.m.

This year’s Got To Be NC Festival 2017 will have fun carnival rides and games, food, snacks and drinks from numerous independent food vendors, a daily tractor parade, pig races, pony rides, farm equipment shows, and exciting shows and demonstrations at the Grandstand.

Just some of the things at this year’s Got To Be NC festival include animals, antique farm equipment, food, carnival rides and games, music, family entertainment for free, The Pig Patch Birthing Center where you can see piglets being born, pig races, pony rides and rabbits.

Lineman’s Rodeo Demonstration will have live line demonstrations such as pole-top transformer changing demonstrations, pole-top rescues and more.

All kinds of music will be there as part of the free entertainment. Music like the Carolina Bluegrass Battle, rock bands and country music bands perform at Dorton Arena over the three-day event.

New For Got To Be NC Festival 2017:

The State Fair Flyer. Ride high in the sky over the midway and watch all the happenings down below. Tickets are $5 one way or $8 round trip.

Sand sculpture by Sandyfeet. Watch sand sculpture artist Ed Moore and his team of sculpturists creating a sand sculpture just for Got To Be NC.

Drone use in agriculture. Geared toward NC agriculture is a special presentation Introduction to Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Uses in Agriculture
UAV. This is an introduction on how to use a drone in the application of agriculture. It takes place in the Grandstand on Friday May 19, 2017 at 2 p.m.
Free admission!

Bulldozer Sandbox is another new exhibit this year. Huge bulldozers will be playing in the dirt at the Grandstands. Big toys for the big boys!

Got To Be NC Festival 2017 Fireworks

Fireworks go off both Friday and Saturday night at 9:15PM.

Bulluck’s Gigantic Warehouse Sale takes place in an old tobacco warehouse in downtown Rocky Mount. The warehouse is full of fine furniture, lighting and decorative accessories. Table after table are set up in rows and covered with lamps, bowls, statues, brass, art, vases, pots, candlesticks and more. Chandeliers hang from the rafters, mirrors and art are hung on the walls. Furniture of every type (contemporary, traditional and transitional) are out on display with prices slashed. Even outdoor furniture is included.

Everything is marked down, you save so much money! I love going to this sale each year! And of course and brought home a carload!

NC State Fair 2016

The NC State Fair 2016 starts Thursday October 13 and ends on October 23, 2016. The theme for this year is Nothing Could Be Finer. Here are just some of the Dorton Arena Concerts for this year’s state fair:Youth Choral Competition, Here As In Heaven: Raleigh with Elevation Church, Delta Rae with Katelyn Read, Chris Lane with Kasey Tyndall, The Embers featuring Craig Woolard, Jim Quick & Coastline, The Soul Psychedelique Orches tra,Superchunk from Durham, Skylar Gudasz, A Night of Praise feature local gospel groups, punk and heavy metal band Corrosion of Conformity, The Ultimate Johnny Cash Tribute featuring Johnny Folsom 4 & Friends, and legendary saxophonist Maceo Parker. There is something for everyone with this wide range of performances taking place during the 10 days of fun at the annual NC state fair. Even more music will be at the various stages throughout the fair grounds each day. Then there is always the folk festival, the carnival rides, horse show, animals, arts and crafts, food, flower and garden show and exhibits, games, agriculture and educational exhibits, food, craft and recipe blue ribbon winners, and so much more.

NC State Fair New Foods This Year!

NC State Fair October 13-23, 2016

New for the NC State Fair 2016 will be those new exciting food items that make the NC state fair so fun to attend. This year will feature such treats as NC Low Country Boil, Deep Fried Cuban Roll, Fried Chicken & Waffle Kabob, Shrimp Bites, Deep Fried Jello, Salted Caramel Maple Bacon Funnel Cake, Man’s Sandwich plus many more. And there is always everybody’s favorite the candy red apples, fresh made ice cream, the funnel cakes and the cotton candy.

Also new for this year is The MarketPlace with your favorite vendors from the Commercial & Education Buildings. The Market Place is a new 5,600 square foot tented vendor area located just outside the Grandstand and across from the Rabbit Barn. The Hobbies & Crafts will be located in a new place this year
With the addition of the Marketplace the Hobbies & Crafts competitive exhibits will move to the Commercial & Education Building near Hillsborough Street.

This year’s state fair is set to be the best ever. The weather forecast is for sunny and warm temperatures so it should be perfect weather to head o the NC State Fair and have fun. See ya at the fair!

East Carolina Wildlife Arts Festival 2016 and NC Decoy Carving Championship

The East Carolina Wildlife Arts Festival 2016 and NC Decoy Carving Championship takes place Feb. 5-7, 2016 in Washington, NC. Art exhibits, carving competition, stamp competition, food and music and more. Exhibitors at the festival include: carvers, painters, photographers, sculptors, knife makers, potters, wildlife guides, wildlife outfitters, custom duck call makers and many more related to outdoor life and wildlife. The festival takes place in downtown and waterfront locations in Washington, North Carolina. See map below. EC Wildlife Arts Festival 2016 Washington NC

The East Carolina Wildlife Arts Festival will be at The Washington Civic Center and the First South Bank Sportsman Venue. Numerous exhibitors (over 65 this year) will be at two venues with wildlife art and exhibits. Exhibitors include: carvers, collectors, painters, photographers, sculptors, knife makers, potters, guides, outfitters, custom duck call makers, and more.

The NC Decoy Carving Championship will be at the Peterson Building both Saturday 9:00am ~ 5:00pm and Sunday 10:00am – 3:00pm.The Peterson Building is located adjacent to the Washington Civic Center. The East Carolina Wildfowl Guild presents the 21st North Carolina Decoy Carving Championship

Also the N.C. Waterfowl Conservation Stamp Competition will be judged at the festival.The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission and the Washington Tourism Development Authority sponsor this annual contest. The artwork that wins will be announced at the Annual East Carolina Wildlife Arts Festival and the N.C. Decoy Carving Championships. The winner is selected by a panel of judges. The winner receives $7,000 in prize money, $300 in travel expense money, and free booth space at the 2017 festival. The winning artwork in the competition will be featured on the 2016-17 waterfowl conservation stamp ( the North Carolina duck stamp).
